Had they been running drugs? Corey doesn't think so, although an ice-chest missing from their home points to something forbidden. Were the Gordons murdered because they'd stolen some valuable new vaccine, or even a dreaded virus? They'd obviously outspent their income. Attraction penny reid read online6/26/2023 It’s called the stroke seat because it sets the stroke rhythm for the rest of the boat. We made a chain, the three of us, as we wove through bodies of scantily dressed females and grabby frat boys. “Martin is Stroke.” Eric turned briefly to explain. “I’m Eric,” Blue-eyes tossed at us over his shoulder. His companion hit him on the back of the head and I heard him say as we left, “Not likely, dumbass.” Follow me.” He tugged me forward.īrown-eyes, the one who felt comfortable putting his hands on my body, winked at me as I passed. and I knew, based on my eavesdropping, that the “drugging” would occur sometime around 10:30 p.m.īlue-eyes nodded, still holding my hand. “So, can you three amigos take us to Martin?” Sam seemed to dislike this last question about my face just as much as I did, because her tone held moderate aggravation. I thought about responding that I’d be happy to do something different to his face, like punch it, but Sam spoke first. Carve the mark veronica roth series6/26/2023 Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?Ĭyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not – their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favoured by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape their future. “ In a galaxy powered by the current, everyone has a gift. Hello wonderful bookworms and welcome back to a review that should’ve been written long ago!Ĭarve the Mark seems to be Veronica Roth’s first attempt to write a science-fiction novel, and it could’ve been great, because it truly had a lot of potential. Plus, Carve the Mark, by Veronica Roth had been in my TBR for way too long and I had to find out what this fuss was all about. But, when your godchild tells you to read a specific book, and you know that you’re the reason why she started reading novels in the first place, well, you need to honour that!Īnd so I did. I like watching movies such as Star Wars or Star Trek, but to read that kind of books… Meh… I think I’ll pass. You know, folks, I’m not the grandest fan of science-fiction. Only One Bed by Keira Andrews: A tropey (only one bed! friends to lovers!) Christmas novella with sweet, likable characters. Probably best read in order, since, though there is a new couple in each book, there is an overarching plot. Strawberry Moon by Sam Burns and WM Fawkes: The only thing I read (other than an audio reread I finished) that wasn't a holiday book! I believe this is the last book in the Wolf Moon Rising series, and though I liked some books in the series more than others, I enjoyed this shifter series. That all said, here are some books I enjoyed in December: I had a little trouble getting into some of them this year I think because I've been having trouble reading contemporaries during the pandemic-I really want the extra escapism of fantasy/paranormal/historical reads. I read mostly holiday stories last month, as I often do in December-there's something about holiday romances that give me an extra fuzzy feeling on top of the usual one that comes with a HEA. I did a 2021 wrap-up post last week in which I talked about some of my favorite reads from last year (you can find that here), and today, it's time for my monthly reading report. Happy New Year, my darlings! I'm not entirely sure where the end of 2021 went, but that's beside the point because we're now in 2022, a new year with hopefully lots of good things for us all and lots of good books to read. Love lucy book april lindner6/25/2023 After a whirlwind romance, Lucy returns home, determined to move on from her “vacation flirtation.” But just because summer is over doesn’t mean Lucy and Jesse are over too. While backpacking through Florence, Italy, during the summer before she heads off to college, Lucy Sommersworth finds herself falling in love with the culture, the architecture, the food…and Jesse Palladino, a handsome street musician. She could learn Italian, apply for a job in a cafe, and never go home again. She could go anywhere, pick a new name for herself, become a whole new person. The thought gave Lucy a delicious little shiver. I could just disappear–lose myself in Florence. Read on for a brief description of the book, as well as the terrific reviews the book has received. April Lindner, Professor of English here at SJU, will read from her new novel LOVE, Lucy on Tuesday, Februduring Free Period at the Library. Prophet by R.J. Larson6/25/2023 Due to these things, I'd recommend this for older teens and up. There is no strong language, though there is a small romance element that while certainly not lewd, did have a couple moments that some might find distasteful. There are several instances of graphic violence and lots of death in the book. There were a few moments where things got a bit slow, but not to the point where I completely lost interest. I do not have any issues with this at all, and in the case of Prophet, there wouldn't be much of a story without the religious overtones. Therefore the religious themes are very overt unlike classic fantasy of Tolkien, MacDonald, or even Lewis. The plot of the story loosely parallels biblical events from the Old Testament but with elements of the fantasy genre, such as mythical creatures. Ambassador Kien is an interesting character also. Her little sister, Tzana, adds an interesting element to the story and in many ways helps keep Ela grounded, although subconsciously. She is courageous, resolute, and righteous without thinking too highly of herself. The characters are fabulous! The heroine, Ela of Parne, is a wonderful character who you can't help liking. But Prophet is! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And it's not always easy to find one that is both. I really enjoy a well-written fantasy story that is clean. Prophet (Books of the Infinite, #1) by R.J. Gilded cages r phoenix epub6/25/2023 Master, on the other hand, is callous toward Zay. He seems to genuinely love his Little, wanting him to be healthy and happy. While interacting with Cammy, Daddy is such a sweet caregiver as long as Cammy’s a good boy. Hyde change when dealing with them both separately. It’s almost as if he’s two different people, though I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s a complete Dr. The way he treats Cammy and Zay differently is very intriguing. He’s what people refer to as a phycological sadist. Daddy, who despite saying he isn’t a sadist, comes across as one remorseless, controlling individual. I don’t normally write my review focusing on the characters, but I thought I would for this book because the plot is so character-driven. I like being able to distinguish between the characters easily no matter whose point of view I’m experiencing the story through. They are all extremely different from one another personality-wise which was refreshing for me. There are three main characters that this book focuses on Daddy/Master, Camden/Cammy, and Isaiah/Zay. The characters and plot of the prose were so thought-provoking I had to start scribbling my thoughts down to retain initial reactions. I enjoyed Zachary’s narrative for Guilded Cages. Despite not being a big fan of Zachary Zaba, I was enthralled by the story he was telling me. I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn’t the case for R. When I write a review, I usually wait until I’ve finished the book before getting started on the reviewing process. Interrupted Journey by James Wilson6/25/2023 Insidious 5 looks to be a terrifying installment to the horror franchise, and will surely close out the haunting story of the Lambert family with a bang. The Insidious 5 trailer then sees Dalton and Josh taking their journey into The Further, with Elise warning audiences that the further one goes into the realm, the more dangerous it becomes. Most of Betty Hill's notes, tapes, and other items have been placed in the permanent collection at the University of New Hampshire, her alma mater. Josh and Renai both admit during voiceover sequences that while their memories were repressed, things from the past have been slipping through. Their story was adapted into the best-selling 1966 book The Interrupted Journey and the 1975 television film The UFO Incident. When asked to relay a memory from the past, he goes back to when he was 10 and in a coma, the events of the first Insidious film. The Insidious 5 trailer then lets audiences know that Dalton is in art school. It then cuts to Renai suggesting that Josh drive Dalton to college, as things have been "tough" between the two. After a quick recap of the Insidious 2 ending where the Lamberts repressed their memories of The Further, the trailer takes viewers 10 years into the future where Josh is trying to piece something together from his memories but is interrupted by a spirit crashing through his window. The most exciting Insidious 5 updates saw the release of the trailer, and it didn't disappoint. “I wish I could live inside a Yukiko Motoya book. (8 of 11 stories in The Lonesome Bodybuilder) Oe Prize commentary on Arashi no pikunikku After tasting the delightful surprises in each story in this varied collection, I felt not as though I had passed through a gallery hung with individual talents, but that I had seen at one glance the irrepressible formation of an artist.” “The writer possesses an acuity in human observation that will be a life’s work, and the prose skill to describe it concisely. This collection serves almost as a sampler of fresh ideas and forms, but the pieces demanded more than simply to enjoy them and then put them away, saying, ‘Well, that was fun.’ How is it that these pieces work with their twists and tricks, and then, on top of that, also attain the state of literature? “Wanting to delve deeper, I decided to read it again, laying aside my long-held view of fiction: one that demarcated ‘entertainment’ from ‘real literature.’ I realized I couldn’t deny it. “I knew immediately this book was a work of quality entertainment by a writer who had consciously worked to hone their craft-but was it literature? I had the lingering doubts of an old man now far removed from the current readership. And these sanctions are the first, least warlike of actions designed to unite the civilized world against naked aggression. and NATO to forge stronger ties, doubtless. But was this the right place to impose sanctions? Efforts to cut off Russia’s access to world markets through sanctions was the best way for the U.S. And now, it appears to be hell on bears, too. Arctic species are one of the best indicators of the impact of global warming at the poles. The article in the Health & Science section points to the cutoff of scientific contact between American and Russian climate scientists. On May 9th The Washington Post called attention to the “chilling effect” Gospodin (Mr.) Putin’s war on Ukraine is having on Arctic research with Polar Bears and other endangered species. |
